How to Recover Deleted Emails and Restore Them Completely

It can happen to anyone. We accidentally delete an email that we really need. And it just happened to be important work file, attachment or picture. So now what? How can I recover that email? Is it at all possible? Surely, it can be permanently deleted?

Well, there is good news and bad news.

Let’s start with the good news.

Restoring Deleted Emails

If you delete an email, it hasn’t really gone anywhere. Even if you’ve emptied your recycle bin or the “Trash” folder in your Inbox – the email still isn’t deleted. It’s just that your computer system now has no way to figure out where it is. But it’s there, still on your hard drive. By using special email recovery tools you can recover deleted emails because these programs identify these ‘missing’ files and can bring them back to life.

Now the bad news.

Act Quickly and Increase Your Chances

The bad news is you have to act quickly. You only have a small time-frame in which to try to attempt to recover your lost email. Every minute that you waste and continue to use the drive for anything that isn’t related to recovering your emails, you severely decrease your chances of successful email recovery. Why?

Well, because your hard drive is constantly overwriting files to make space for new information you put into it. If your hard drive is full and there is not much space or memory available – it is highly probable that the email has already been overwritten and deleted – permanently.

Other Problems with Recovering Deleted Emails

Not all deleted or lost emails go to “Trash” folder. If you have suffered a computer crash or hardware failure or your operating system is corrupted in some way, then it is unlikely that emails you have deleted can be recovered.

Also, if you haven’t opened the email at all or it hasn’t been deleted the usual way due to file corruption, you probably will have less of a chance to recover and restore the email in its entirety.

Nothing to Lose

Recover deleted email programs search and locate the emails that you have deleted. You can search by entering a specific keyword for example. Then, you can choose to preview the email to see it’s contents and if it’s been recovered in its original state by the program. You can also select to scan for what ever email program you are using (and need to recover) – either web based emails such as Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail or Outlook Express.

Best bit is this. Most of these email recovery programs are free to download. When they start scanning your hard drive looking for the deleted email and then manage to find it and when you are completely satisfied that that’s your missing email – then you can then proceed to purchase the software.

In essence, you have nothing to lose (if the email is not there – it’s not there) and everything to gain.

Well, at least you can get your deleted email back.

Establishing Whether Csrss.exe is a Windows Process Or a Virus

Csrss.exe is a windows product and has been written by Microsoft. Termination of this program is not recommended since it is necessary for secure and stable running of the computer and should therefore run throughout.

Whether csrss.exe is legitimate or a virus depends on factors such as its directory location from where it runs or executes. Running a registry scan, which is free helps to identify any errors that are related to this process. Since this process is essential for the applications to function properly, to be on the safe side the user should run the performance scan to optimize memory, Internet, and CPU settings. The PC drivers could also be causing hardware failures, system crashes and conflicts and therefore need to be updated. This can be done by running a driver scan to identify and note the outdated drivers on the system.

The original file for csrss.exe should be in “C:WindowsSystem32″ and if not then it is a spyware, virus, worm or trojan. This can be verified with security task manager, which provides unique security, process description, and process type among other functions. Where the user finds out that csrss.exe is a trojan and has been registered as such, prompt measures need to be taken to prevent breach of security and access from attackers. This trojan is a security risk and many prefer to have it removed from their computers since their passwords, personal data and Internet banking information can be stolen due to access gained into the computer from a remote location.

This hardware related process registers 100% CPU usage when the user’s profile has been corrupted. The solution to this problem requires a simple but sensitive process. Before making any further progress the user should back up all the contents in the document folder and any other important data that is stored in the profile like application settings. This is because stored data cannot be recovered once the profile is deleted. To delete the profile the user has to be logged into an account with administrative privileges to open the user’s profile list for deleting. The user then logs off and logs back in the normal way and the system creates a new profile automatically. Where the corrupted files are domain administrators, the recovery files are backed up first.

How to Fix Windows Server 2008 Boot Loader

If the boot loader to your Windows Server 2008 machine gets corrupted or deleted for whatever reason, it really is a painstaking process to get it fixed. The boot loader to my machine got deleted somehow while I was resizing partitions. After scouring the web, I could not find anything on rebuilding the boot loader for Windows Server 2008. All I could find were instructions to restore a Windows Vista boot loader but luckily, the process for Server 2008 is similar.

Due to the lack of recovery tools on the Server 2008 installation CD, the boot loader must be rebuilt manually.

For this guide, I’m going to assume your installation has a drive letter of C:.

Insert the Server 2008 installation CD into your DVD-ROM. Restart your computer and boot from the CD.

Choose to repair your computer, then open the command prompt.

At the command prompt, use the following commands:

c:

cd boot

bootsect /nt60 c: /force /mbr

bootrec /rebuildbcd

After using the “bootrec /rebuldbcd” command, you will be prompted to accept a Windows installation. Accept the installation, then wait for the process to finish. Once it’s done, reboot your comptuer and you should have a boot loader ready to go.

If you do not have a “boot” folder in the system C: drive, then copy the “boot” folder form the Windows installation CD to the C: drive. Use the following command which assumes E: is your DVD-ROM

mkdir c:boot

copy e:boot* c:boot

Afterwards, just use the boot restore commands to rebuild the bootloader.
